Principal Business Types
Like many of its eastern European counterparts, Hungary has experienced social and political reforms. As early as 1982, measures were introduced to encourage private enterprise and the Companies Act of 1988 now provides new and uniform legislation governing business enterprises. Entities include:
Limited Liability Company
In which the members liability to the company is limited to their capital contribution. Provision is also made within the law for single member Limited Liability Companies.
Public Limited Company
In which the nominal capital may not be less than HUF 10 million.
There are also Unlimited Partnerships, Limited Partnerships, Sole Proprietorships where unlimited liability is assumed by one or more of the proprietors.
Limited Companies are obliged to register at the Central Court of registration and such data is open to public inspection. In addition, the larger limited companies must publish balance sheets.
